Grunky Funk: Buy
The Year of Defeat
Finding inspiration from the (thankfully) bygone Bush administration and the southern surroundings within the “Bible belt” from whence they hail, Grunky Funk recorded this satirical album addressing the politics of the post 2004 presidential election. Incensed by the knee-jerk support of "real" Americans toward the Bush administration and its war in Iraq, Grunky Funk set out to provide a voice for the other Americans, country music artists and fans not beholden to extreme religious fundamentalism, homophobia, and unjustified war. The goal of the album is to parody the reality of the current American right-wing culture as a means of discharging the depression, anger, and frustration with which those in the center and to the left are stricken. If Bush and the moral majority left you angry and frustrated, you might want to listen, and maybe laugh where you would otherwise mourn.
